First Flame
First Flame is a middle grade secret history about a whimsical young boy who is forced to run away to protect his best friend, a fledgling phoenix, when they are the cause of the great fire of 1901 in Jacksonville, FL.
Sammy seems like a normal kid, living in the south in 1901. But Sammy has a secret – his best friend, Phoebe, is a phoenix. When a fatal injury causes her death and re-birth, it sets the entire city ablaze, the Great Fire of 1901 – and Sammy and Phoebe know the true source of the first flame. Separated from his parents and forced to flee, Sammy vows to protect Phoebe from the investigators, the fire marshal and the phoenix hunter hot on their trail.
